Nuno Felting Demo (Silks & Wools
Create an Unbelievable Fabric)

Instructor: Barbara Crawford,
Crawford Designs

Class fee: $10
Nuno felting is a Japanese felting technique that combines shear fiber and wool to make lightweight garments and other items. The word Nuno is Japanese for fabric. This type of felting is also known as laminated felting so there is no sewing involved with exception of hand sewing your embellishments. Barbara will teach how to combine wool roving and silks, yarns, even curly mohair silks, soap, and water to create a one-of-a-kind scarf. The scarves are works of art on their own and embellishing them with beads, embroidery creates more dimensions and quite a profit making item in high-end stores. This class will enable you to learn the technique and create clothing that is lightweight and non bulky to sew. Patterns can be free style by throwing the roving randomly onto the silk or actually laying out the rovings and yarn, silk ribbons, etc in a distinctive pattern. Either way is great and creates many possibilities for transparency and exciting texture.
