Irena is an award winning quilter, instructor, pattern designer and author of eight books. Irena is also a national sales representative for Gammill Quilting Systems. With 18 years of garment making/design and 12 years of doing art for hobby, she has transitioned the experience in creating fine art and other skills into making quilts for shows and exhibits exclusively. Irena is very passionate about creating many different quilting design patterns, innovative ways of making show quality quilts, writing books and teaching. Her enthusiasm is very contagious as she loves to share, encourage and inspire other quilters to try something new that they never thought they would be able to do. After longarm quilting for just a little over one year, Irena started teaching longarm quilting nationwide in March 2006. Since then she has been teaching at many major venues. Irena is hoping that her encouraging nature, contagious enthusiasm for creating art and what she loves to do is going to inspire many others to try her techniques. Since she started entering her work into major national and international quilt contests in 2005, she developed a strong and lasting passion for this art form. Her work has won 56 awards in national and international quilt contests.

What it Takes to Create a Winner
Presented by Irena Bluhm
Class fee: $10
Skill level: All
What does it take to create a winner? Listen to Irena’s own take on this subject, as she is going to share her own experiences in contest quilt creation and preparations for shows. You can view her entire quilt collection during the presentation. Irena will discuss what mistakes to avoid and what really gets the judges’ attention! No reason to feel intimidated by the competition. There are just a few simple rules to follow in order to create an eye catching showpiece! Irena will also discuss many aspects of an overall quilt design. All you need is to understand what is the most important in the entire process of creating a competition piece and face the challenge head on.
Bring a notepad and pen to class.

SUNDAY 9 a.m.-1 p.m.
Quilts of a Different Color
Presented by Irena Bluhm
Class fee: $40 Kit fee: $35
Skill level: All
Learn how easy it is to apply color using colored pencils to a small, already quilted piece, ready for painting. You don’t have to be an artist, just try to paint what you see. Don’t shy away from using bold colors and stark contrast to create a drama. You can learn how to do the shading in order to make your designs look dimensional. It is a lot of fun and very relaxing. Irena feels very passionate about what she is doing and loves sharing her experiences, the good along with the bad, so you don’t have to go through the pain of learning the lessons the hard way like she did.
No supplies needed for this class.
